Med-Tech Engineers Academy achieves QCTO accreditation
2 April, 2025 – Gauteng-based Med-Tech Engineers Academy is pleased to announce that it has now been accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), verifying the authenticity of its qualifications and training programmes.

This accreditation comes in addition to its recent accreditation by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to provide continuing professional development-accredited courses and the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association’s PV GreenCard certification to provide courses in solar energy.

The QCTO plays a pivotal role in verifying occupational and trade certificates issued under the Skills Development Act and the Continuing Education and Training Act. “This is a significant milestone, which assures our clients that we are credible and in alignment with national standards. It underscores our commitment to upholding the highest standards of education and training in the industry,” notes Med-Tech Engineers MD Dr Gift Mphefu.

Following a comprehensive site inspection, the QCTO has formally accredited Med-Tech Engineers Academy to offer, among other qualifications, the Higher Occupational Certificate for Solar Photovoltaic Standalone Service Technicians (NQF Level 5) and the Occupational Certificate for Solar Photovoltaic Service Technicians (NQF Level 5) at its premises for a period of five years, effective from March 5, 2025, to March 4, 2030.

“This accreditation emphasises our commitment to addressing South Africa’s critical engineering skills shortages. Through our targeted training programmes, we offer programmes that have been designed to equip professionals with the technical expertise needed to design, operate and maintain advanced technologies,” says Mphefu.

Empowering the Engineering Sector

“We are committed to empowering professionals within the engineering, technology and built environment sectors. Our training programmes are designed for engineers, technicians, artisans and IT professionals, with a strong focus on developing practical, work-ready skills,” notes Mphefu, adding that the Academy also offers specialised courses in welding, plumbing, electrical systems, computer programming and hardware maintenance.

“This is complemented by targeted programmes in water infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, health technology infrastructure and other essential areas of the built environment. Through this diverse offering, the Academy plays a vital role in preparing learners to drive innovation and address infrastructure challenges across industries,” he states.

Mphefu highlights that the Academy has also introduced virtual reality (VR) simulations to enhance training efficiency by replicating real-life work environments, creating a dynamic, immersive platform that bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

VR allows trainees to interact with and engage in complex tasks within a controlled, safe environment, enabling them to practice and refine their skills before applying them in real-world scenarios. “As these simulations can be tailored to specific roles or industries, each training session is highly relevant and aligned with the unique challenges of that specific job,” says Mphefu.

Looking ahead, Med-Tech Engineers Academy is committed to advancing skills development across the engineering, technology and built environment sectors, with a focus on both public and private sector needs.

Through strategic partnerships with leading manufacturers, industry bodies and key stakeholders, the Academy will offer customised training programmes designed to strengthen technical capacity and contribute to improved infrastructure service delivery across local government, state-owned entities, and private enterprises.
